In the latest episode of the Next Level Income Show, I sat down with Davis Oliver of Taxes Saved to discuss exactly that—and let me tell you, this conversation is a game-changer for anyone looking to keep more of their hard-earned money.
Davis works with high-income W-2 earners, business owners, and retirees who are stuck paying massive tax bills and shows them how to legally and ethically reduce their taxes through proactive planning. The truth is, most CPAs are trained to file taxes, not plan for them—and that’s where the biggest missed opportunities lie. As Davis said during the episode, “The tax code wasn’t written to make you pay the most—it was written to let you legally pay the least.” That one line really stuck with me.
One of the things we dove into was how alternative investment strategies—like oil and gas partnerships and even film financing using Section 181—can create massive deductions for investors. Imagine investing $50,000 and receiving over $200,000 in deductions in year one. These are real numbers from real case studies Davis and his team have implemented.
We also talked about Roth conversions and how retirees often find themselves in higher tax brackets than expected. Many of our clients have tax-deferred accounts that are ballooning in value, which leads to large Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). Taxes Saved specializes in creating strategies that help convert these funds into Roth accounts in a tax-efficient way—sometimes saving clients millions over the long term.
What I loved most about this conversation is how practical and grounded it was. Davis wasn’t just sharing theory—he walked us through real-world examples of how his firm helps clients save significant money through the tax code as it exists today. From W-2 earners who think they have no options to business owners who are tired of massive tax bills, there’s a strategy out there—you just have to work with the right team.
