Next Level 324: How Art Became a $60 Billion Asset Class with Maria Brito

Maria Brito has spent 17 years advising private collectors on buying and selling art, facilitating over $200 million in transactions. In this episode, she joins Chris for a different kind of conversation: how a market most investors never think about earns a place next to real estate and equities as a genuine asset class, and why the collectors who do it well aren’t chasing an index, they’re chasing a piece they love.

Maria Brito is a New York-based contemporary art advisor, entrepreneur, author, and curator. Born and raised in Venezuela, she moved to the U.S. to attend Harvard Law School and spent years as a corporate attorney at New York law firms before leaving the law to found her own art advisory business 17 years ago. She has since facilitated over $200 million in art transactions for private collectors and family offices, and is the author of the award-winning, best-selling book *How Creativity Rules the World: The Art and Business of Turning Your Ideas Into Gold* (HarperCollins). She has been recognized by Art News, Complex, and Observer for her influence in the contemporary art world.
